It’s not only Lee County’s Right Of Way (ROW) that’s giving Red Coconut owner Fran Myers heartaches these days. On Wednesday afternoon, crews from the Town of Fort Myers Beach’s Public Works department installed permanent signs along her property’s Donora frontage advising guests of the RV park not to park their vehicles within 20 feet of the road, citing a section of the Land Development Code Myers says was never meant to apply to Red Coconut. Steele Outlines Final Budget, CIP and Reserves Requirements
On Thursday afternoon, the Town Council of Fort Myers Beach held their final public workshop on the proposed 0.8 millage rate and budget for the 2016/2017 fiscal year. Despite some residents’ concerns about funding for Bay Oaks and two councilmembers who thought that 0.8 was too low, Council moved the budget forward as-is to the final public hearing later that evening. San Carlos Island resident and Bay Oaks supporter Charlie Whitehead voiced concerns about Bay Oaks and said the proposed budget shortchanges the taxpayers and residents. Barricades Come Down

Travelers on Estero Boulevard in the area near Key Estero Plaza no doubt noticed something markedly different on Thursday morning – the concrete barrier erected in the center of the road in early July is now gone. On Wednesday afternoon, crews from the County’s Estero Boulevard reconstruction project began removing the orange barrels and concrete barrier wall from Lani Kai to Miramar Street.  By Thursday morning, northbound traffic had been shifted to the center lane as crews milled the existing asphalt in the closed lane and built a temporary ramp for access to Carolina Street.  CLICK HERE to read the full story.

Divided Council Passes Budget
At the final public budget hearing on Thursday night, a divided Town Council passed the proposed 0.8 millage rate and budget for the coming fiscal year. They also approved a new contract with Town Attorney Dawn Lehnert and agreed to a November 7 workshop to hear new plans from former developer Tom Torgerson. During Local Achievements and Recognitions, Council member Tracey Gore thanked the Fort Myers Beach Kids Foundation for raising the funds to purchase ChromeBooks for the students at Beach Elementary.
