LPA Approves TPI-FMB Application
Downtown Proposal Passes 5 to 2
After years on the drawing board, three different plan versions, and more conversation and conjecture than even the “Coconut Telegraph” could process, the TPI-FMB Downtown Redevelopment Plan finally had its first Public Hearing before the Local Planning Agency (LPA) in Town Hall on Tuesday, February 13. After almost eight hours of presentations, Public Comment and LPA questions and suggestions, the panel approved the TPI-FMB proposal by a 5 to 2 vote, with it now moving forward to Town Council for the final determination. LPA Chair Hank Zumba, along with Megan Heil, Dan Hughes, Jane Plummer and Scott Safford voted Yes, while Vice-Chair Dan Hendrickson and Lorrie Wolf cast No votes. The LPA will not officially approve these Meeting Minutes until its March 13 session, meaning the final matter will not go to Council until some point after that. The hearing began with a TPI-FMB presentation, followed by reports from Town Consultant Bill Spikowski and Town Community Development Director Jason Green, then Public Comment. After a 30-minute lunch break, the LPA reconvened for questions, comments and review before voting. Council Chambers filled early for the meeting, with overflow capacity provided in a tent outside Town Hall.  FULL STORY

Taxpayer Association Hosts Development Team
Tom Torgerson and his TPI-FMB team had a busy day on Tuesday, February 13! That morning, after years of planning, three different development designs, and months of discussion with community members and Town Staff, they finally had their long-awaited first public hearing for their TPI-FMB Downtown Redevelopment Plan before the Local Planning Agency (LPA), ultimately receiving approval by a 5 to 2 vote after an almost 8-hour session. Two hours later, they were the speakers at the February Estero Island Taxpayers Association (EITA) meeting at the First Baptist Church before roughly 50 people and a live-stream audience. “When I agreed a few weeks back to speak this evening, I didn’t really give it much thought,” Tom said, smiling at the memory. “Then, when I later told my wife, Mari said, ‘you realize what day that is?’ It took me a minute to understand what she meant, then I just shook my head!” Joining Tom were TPI-FMB architect John Hafner, CEO Mitch Peterson, Chief Investment Officer Chris Flagg, and Consultant and former Fort Myers Beach Deputy Town Manager John Gucciardo, who all, like Torgerson, spoke to the LPA earlier in the day.  FULL STORY
