• Town of FMB Hosts Holiday Festivities

What better way could anyone wish to spend the Fourth of July than a parade in the morning, watermelon and cake in the afternoon and a breathtaking fireworks extravaganza at night? If this is your ideal All-American celebration, spend your Fourth on Fort Myers Beach! “We begin the holiday with our annual parade,” said Sean DePalma, the Town’s Parks & Recreation Department Director. “It leaves the Bay Oaks Recreational Center at 2731 Oaks Street, near the Fort Myers Beach Public Library, at 10 a.m. It heads north on the island, past Times Square, then goes to the end of Old San Carlos Boulevard. We have special VIP Jeeps, donated by Galloway Ford, for our dignitaries, such as the Parade Grand Marshall, Bill Veach, who is the Town’s 2018 Citizen of The Year, and Vice Mayor Joanne Shamp.” Full Article

• 4TH of JULY

The 4th of July Parade will begin at 10am on WE July 4 at Bay Oaks Recreation Center and make its way down Estero Blvd. to Times Square and Old San Carlos Blvd. Parade entrants should email sarah@FMBGOV.com for more info on how to sign up for the parade. After the Parade, head to Times Square from Noon – 2pm for free cake, a dunk tank and the 2nd annual watermelon eating contest. There will be three divisions: men, women and children. At 9pm the fireworks begin off the pier. Expect about 20 minutes of a spectacular light show. Trolleys will run from Lovers Key State Park until 11:25pm and from the Beach Park & Ride near Wal-Mart until 10:50pm. • 4th BRIDGE CLOSURES

The Matanzas skybridge will be closed on WE July 4 from 9-11am for the parade AND from 9-11:30pm for the fireworks.  Estero Blvd will be closed from the Matanzas Bridge to Red Coconut RV Park from 9-11am.

• KIDS FISHING TOURNAMENT

Join Ostego Bay Foundation for their annual free 4th of July Kid’s Fishing Tournament on SA June 30 from 9am until noon at Bonita Bill’s Waterfront Café docks. This traditional kid’s event is always held the SA before the 4th of July and attracts over 100 kids ages 3-15. Prizes are awarded for Most Fish, Heaviest Fish & Longest Fish. Cut bait is provided. Participants must bring their own poles, (one pole/one hook per child) and any other bait they wish to use. Donations are appreciated.
