Red Tide: Patchy concentrations of Red
Tide persist in Southwest Florida from Pinellas to Lee counties
according to the mid-week November 14, 2018 Florida Fish & Wildlife
Red Tide Report. High levels (>1 million cells/liter) were found in
and/or offshore of northern Lee as well as Pinellas, Sarasota and
Charlotte counties. Medium (>100,000 to 1 million cells/liter) were
found in the same areas plus offshore of Monroe County. Compared to last
week, Red Tide has increased in and/or offshore of Lee County and in
northern Pinellas County. In the last FWC full report on November 9, 2018, High levels were
detected from Pinellas to Lee counties. In Lee County, 14 samples showed
background to high levels of Karenia brevis. High levels of K.brevis
were found in Lee County at Boca Grande Pass on November 6, with Medium
levels at Captiva Pass and Lighthouse Beach last week. Testing at
Matanzas Pass, Lynn Hall Park and the Mound House dock on Fort Myers
Beach all showed “Not Present” results. Lovers Key State Park tested as
Low on November 7.

5:04pm, Matanzas Pass Preserve. This experiential handson program will awaken and sharpen participant’s senses of smell, touch, hearing and night vision. Join two volunteers carrying candle-lit lanterns through the Preserve as night descends and celebrate the darkness and the moon. Meet at the entrance to the Preserve behind the Historical Cottage on Bay Street. Program is free, but pre-registration is required. Adults only. Limited to 12 participants. Boats meet on the south side of the Sanibel bridge at 11am and head to the Captains’ Table at Harpoon Harry’s for lunch. Free for club members.
