Beach Tram Service Underway
Popular Transports Return For 2nd Season
Seasonal visitors know that parking on Fort Myers Beach can be a challenge, cutting into both their time enjoying Paradise and their wallet. This year, LeeTran is offering both tram and trolley options to help move people conveniently and inexpensively around the island. “The popular Beach Tram will return to Fort Myers Beach from January 3 through May 1,” said Robert Bodie, the new LeeTran Director. “Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and we may extend evening service if we see a need. Due to their open nature, trams are free to residents and visitors, rather than the 75-cent trolley fee.”  FULL ARTICLE & RESOURCE

Art Quilt Exhibits at Library
The Fort Myers Beach Public Library Artist of the Month for January is not one single individual, as most often occurs, but two exhibits from “Art Quilters Unlimited (AQU).” They will debut the new exhibit, “Resist: Interpretations & Techniques,” as well as present “Reflections on Hurricane Irma.” “These quilts are not functional or something you lay on your floor,” stated Pamela Richardson, AQU Exhibit Chair; “they are true works of art.” In explaining the origins of the two shows, Pamela said that “every year to 18 months, the Exhibit Chair comes up with a theme and invites members to produce works about them. They receive some specific instructions, like size restrictions, formats or materials they must include in each piece. For ‘Reflections on Hurricane Irma,’ for example, each one must not only reflect upon the artist’s experience with the storm, whether they went through it here in our area or out of town, but it must contain some type of lanai screening.”
